Exxon Mobil 2Q profit sets US record, shares fall
Houston (AP) - "Exxon Mobil Corp. reported second-quarter earnings of $11.68 billion Thursday, the biggest profit from operations ever by any U.S. corporation, but the results were well short of Wall Street expectations and its shares fell."
Are you kidding me? The biggest profit ever? And it could/should have been higher?
There are so many reasons to oppose off-shore/ANWR drilling it's not even amusing. But instead of actually subsidizing/forcing companies to invest in clean/renewable/alternative forms of energy, you think it's necessary to give them access to more oil? When they've shown they can charge whatever they want at the pump? When they're pocketing your hard-earned cash at will (well, not mine)? Conservative estimates say drilling would start producing oil in 8-10 years. This is going to bring prices down how? And when they actually produce oil, who thinks they'll pass it on for less than the current market value?
I realize now that biofuels aren't the long term answer to our energy issues. But this is exactly why I switched to biodiesel in the first place. Exxon isn't getting any more of my money. Period. This kind of information needs to get to the public through the mainstream medial; I won't be able to deal with this if the Dems cave again and sign off on drilling. No more blank checks for big oil.
